As easily as plans are made, they can quickly change. After the wedding in SC, we went to Riverbend RV Park in Lake Toxaway NC. We spent a summer there 2 years ago. We were asked to work as camp hosts for August & September. Since we like the place so much we took the offer. We went to Scarborough Maine and Newport RI for 6 weeks and then returned to NC for the rest of the summer.
Maine: We got to Maine mid-June and it was rainy and cold and decided this was too early to go that far north. Our son Jack and his girlfriend, Colleen came for a weekend visit. A Lobster feast was the main attraction. After about 2 weeks of rain, it finally became more seasonable in July. We took a drive to Meredith NH to visit with Jack & Colleen on July 4th and went to see the fireworks. We found a good beach in Scarborough for walking and the water was reasonably warm. We both actually took a dip. We toured the lighthouses along the coast, took a ferry to Peak’s Island, and drove along the beautiful shoreline of Maine. We consumed as much lobster as we could.
Newport, Rhode Island: We spent a week in Newport on our way back to NC. The last time we were there the weather was terrible and could not enjoy the views. But, before we could do anything, the truck had to go to the Dodge dealer for a new water pump. Luckily it was still under warranty. We walked the Cliff walk and drove the scenic Ocean drive, as well as drove down to Point Judith and Narragansett.
