CHARLOTTE AMALIE, ST THOMAS USVI

AT THE GREEN IGUANA HOTEL

October 16 to November 19, 2013

We had the opportunity to spend a month in Charlotte Amalie in Saint Thomas as relief managers for the Green Iguana Hotel. The deal is that we work for 2 weeks and get to stay and play for an additional 2 weeks. The hotel is a small 9 room boutique hotel, the managers, Gwen & John are wonderful hosts and treat their guests like family. We had no problem learning the system and feeling at home. It turned out that the managers did not go away, but had a “stay-cation”. So, we worked a few days on and few days off each week which worked out fine.

We had fun exploring the beaches and the back roads. There are so many small beaches and restaurants tucked away down small roads. Driving the Island is a challenge. The driving is on the left side of the road, the roads are not in very good condition and the natives drive worse than a NYC taxi driver!

Water Island was one of our favorite places to visit. It is a short water-taxi ride over to the newest addition to the Virgin Islands. After you arrive, you take a short walk to the nearest beach where there are beach chairs, huts and Heidi’s Hideaway. She makes the best burger Ron ever had (or so he said after one of the best Rum Punches he ever had)! The menu is small but all is good, especially the Rum Punch.

After our almost 5 weeks on the Island we were ready to come back to the mainland. But, we will be back!
