Zion National Park
We left Washington on September 3 and drove down to Zion National Park to meet up with our friends, Ruth & Terry Hager. Once you get to the east side of Washington & Oregon, you enter the desert and the plains. The roads are easy to drive and it only took a few days of driving to reach Zion. We stopped at Kolob Canyon on the way to Zion and quickly remembered how beautiful the red rocks are. At Zion we walked out to the Narrow's. Ruth & Terry continued their hike into the water and up the stream to the Narrows. We did not do that this time. The Utah National Parks are beautiful and wished we could have done more of them this trip, but we are anxious to get back east.
After Zion, we got on I-70 and headed east to North Carolina. We drove 200-250 miles per day for 7 days. This is not our normal way of traveling, but it worked for us this time. Once you cross the Rockies in Colorado, you drive through more plains and farmland until you hit Kentucky & Tennessee. We spent a few days at Riverbend RV in Lake Toxaway NC. We know everyone there and always have a good time. There were some heavy rains while at Riverbend the the park flooded for a few hours.
We went to Greenville SC for a couple of weeks to catch up on visits with the family. We all enjoyed a special evening out for dinner at the American Grocery. The boys got together and played golf.
We head back to FL on October 12 for the winter. After driving 12,500 miles this summer we need some R&R. If we were to do it again, we would give ourselves more time to travel from FL.
If you come through the Central Florida region come and see us! We will be here for 6 months and maybe longer.
