May-June: Lake Toxaway NC
We left FL on May 20 and head to Riverbend RV Resort in Lake Toxaway. It is one of our favorite RV parks. Over Memorial Day weekend, we attended a wedding in Greenville SC with Jim & Bev and Brian & Lyn. The groom was Brian's good friend since High School in NJ. Brian & Lyn bought a new house in Greenville, so it was an exciting visit.
While in NC we took a few hikes to waterfalls in the area. Translyvania County in NC is known for all its beautiful waterfalls. It was quiet at Riverbend to start, but slowly the park started to fill with people we know and have a good time.
July & August: Mid-Coast Maine
It is a long and tedious drive to get to Maine. The weather is hot, humid and the air is smoggy in VA, PA & NY. There is no easy way to get here. We were rewarded with nice, clear, cool days and had to put an extra blanket on the bed. That did not last long and soon we had a few days of temperatures in the upper 90's, which is un-heard of up here. Thankfully, it cleared out and we have enjoyed typical nice Maine weather. We take some hikes and scenic drives to the lighthouses along the coast and find beaches to admire the boats and lobster pots. We went to the Brass Compass Cafe in Rockland, where Bobby Flay had a Throwdown with the owner/chef making a Lobster Club Roll sandwich. Bobby lost and the chef is very proud of her huge sandwich. Ron had one and loved it! He said he could have eaten another one. We are eating Lobster once a week and hope to leave feeling tired of eating lobster. We found a few lobster pounds where we can buy directly from the lobstermen.
In July, we rented a big house on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire with our family, Brian & Lyn and Jim & Bev. Jack & Colleen live nearby. We had 7 of our 8 grandchildren there with us. Unfortunately our oldest grand-daughter and our great-grand-daughter was unable to come. It was a lot of fun being all together and eating great meals. A good time was had by all and would like to do this more often.
September: New Jersey
We went to our old hometown of Forked River, NJ for a couple of weeks. We visited with both our families who live there. It was good to see them all again. We enjoyed a Norton Family day at Ron's sister Kathy's house, a day on Barnegat Bay with his brother, Dennis and a weekend with Ginny's family to celebrate her sister Judi's 70th birthday. Her birthday is not actually until December, but we thought it would be more fun to surprise her early.
October: South Carolina
On our way back to FL we spent a month in Greenville SC. Brian & Lyn are remodeling their bathroom and Ron was helping. Jim & Bev were moving into a new house and we were going to help with the move, but the move has been delayed. The bathroom remodeling was still underway when we left but much of the hard work was finished. Brian & Lyn had a family BBQ with both families and it was a nice time.
